Poem: #AfricaDay2018

You are ocean kissing earth at the shoreline of my skin As I glisten amidst familiar tides of laughter
You are birth place, first chuckle and growth place
I, spread across Sahara and savannah
With roots in cultures I have blossomed in loving

You are heartbeat
The sound of talking drum and earthquake
Orchestrating African melodies that treble troubles away
We dance to the rhythm
Knowing that this footwork will always lead us back home, to you .

You are delicacy, delicate art steeped in the red and brown of mother’s jollof rice and plantain
You are proof that even things sucked dry can still be watered to ocean
